Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188)
Individuals who not only have the capital to invest but also business expertise are eligible to apply for the Business Innovation and Investment visa. It lets the applicant operate a new or existing business in Australia. A provisional visa enables them own and manage a business in Australia, and invest in entrepreneurial endeavours or business and investment operations, as well as those who have a subclass 444 (Special Category) visa and certain subclass 457 (Business (Long Stay) visa holders, to remain in the country permanently.
The Permanent visa subclass (888), will be granted to the visa holders of subclass 188 (Business Innovation and Investment), as well as the visa subclass 444 (Special Category), and visa subclass 457 (Business -Long Stay).
To obtain this visa you are required to:- Run and operate a new or existing business in Australia.
- Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
Investor Stream
You must conduct business or investment activities in Australia while holding this provisional visa, which requires you to invest at least AUD1.5 million in Australian investments that meet certain criteria.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- Â Â Â Invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory.
- Â Â Â Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
Significant Investor Stream
To apply for significant investor stream, you must conduct business or investment activities in Australia while holding this provisional visa, which requires you to invest at least AUD1.5 million in Australian investments that meet certain criteria.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- Â Â Â Invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory.
- Â Â Â Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
Premium Investor Stream
You must conduct business or investment activities in Australia while holding this provisional visa, which requires you to invest at least AUD1.5 million in Australian investments that meet certain criteria.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- Â Â Â Invest AUD1.5 million in an Australian State or Territory.
- Â Â Â Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
Entrepreneur Stream
For start-up and early-stage entrepreneurs who have been recognised by a State or Territory government agency and granted to develop their concepts.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- In order to engage in entrepreneurship, you must have a funding agreement with a third party.
- You must first be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
Visa Extension Stream
Business Innovation Extension stream is a provisional visa that allows the visa holders (subclass 188), in the Business Innovation stream, to continue their stay in Australia. Obtaining this visa allows you an extension of up to two additional years. As a result, you have a total of 6 years to reside in Australia following the issuance of your Subclass 188 visa under the Business Innovation stream.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- Only have held 1 Business Innovation and Investment visa (subclass 188).
- Hold a Subclass 188 visa in the Business Innovation stream.Â
- Hold your Subclass 188 visa in the Business Innovation stream for at least 3 years.Â
- You must be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency.
This provisional visa allows significant investor stream and business innovation and investment visa holders to reside in Australia for up to 4 additional years. Increase the length of stay by up to four extra years, giving a total of eight years to stay in Australia after receiving your Subclass 188 visa under the Significant Investor stream.
To obtain this visa you are required to:
- Hold a Subclass 188 visa in the Significant Investor stream for at least 3 years, or a Subclass 188 visa in the Significant Investor Extension stream.
- Have not more than 1 Subclass 188 visa in the Significant Investor Extension stream.
- Be nominated by an Australian State or Territory government agency or Austrade.
