From July 1st, Australia student visa holders are allowed to work at 48 hours per fortnight

Small business owners are warning that a re-introduction of a cap on the number of hours student visa holders can work will put a further strain on an already struggling national workforce.

From July 1, the number of hours student visa holders are allowed to work will be capped at 48 hours per fortnight.

Small Business Australia executive director Bill Lang told Today many industries are already suffering a skills shortage and this will only make things worse.

Business & Investment Visa Australia 2022 - 2023

In the last 2 months, there is so much positive news regarding the skilled migration program. However, there are a few negative updates about the business visa program to be considered. This year has seen very low allocations for business innovation and investment visas in all states. There were around 7,000 allocations available in 2021. This year only has 810 total allocations in this interim stage. This is an approximately 85% decrease.

The most in-demand skills in Australia’s  states and regions are highlighted on the Skilled Occupation List Australia. The Integrated Supported Occupation List is a tool that is used as part of the points-based system for Australian immigration. Skilled workers who wish to live and work in Australia must select or nominate an occupation from this list that matches their qualifications (CSOL).
If an applicant applies for skilled migration but no Australian state or territory nominates them, they must select an occupation from the SOL Australia list. The Australian Department of Home Affairs changes its list of skilled occupations annually in accordance with the most recent employment market demands of the country.

Sydney Welcomes Returning International Students

City of Sydney has officially welcomed hundreds of international students who will study at various educational institutions across the city over the next few years. Hosted by Lord Mayor, Clover Moore, the Welcome for International Students ceremony at Sydney Town Hall was attended by more than 650 students, including participants from the 2023 international student leadership and ambassador (ISLA) program. Comprising 24 students from 12 countries and regions, the ambassadors are taking part in a year-long program that includes free training, work integrated learning and volunteer opportunities to develop leadership skills and work on projects for international student communities. The Lord Mayor said the welcome event recognises and celebrates the contribution international students make to Sydney’s vibrancy, liveability and cultural diversity, helping them start lifelong connections with the city.
